What is Progressive Dentistry?

Progressive Dentistry:

We try to focus on overall health with an emphasis on optimum oral health. We do this by proceeding in a step by step fashion, thus helping you acheive a wonderful healthy smile.

Twenty-first Century Dentistry

During the fantastic '90s, cosmetic surgery has made a tremendous impact on dental practices throughout the world. Progressive, cosmetic dentistry is a passion among many dentists, and it has enabled dentistry to become fun and exciting for everyone involved.

Ask yourself, "How do we make a lasting first impression?" Is it our eyes, our hair, a beautiful smile? Well time and time again, studies show it is a persons smile that we notice first. Chances are you will remember the last smile that needed help as well as the last smile that touched your heart.

So why is it that so many people forget to go to the dentist? Well, unfortunately many of us harbor dark memories of our visits to the dentist. the good news is dentistry has come a long way; technology and patient comfort are now foremost on every dental professional's mind. So get over it, see your dentist and experience the excitement of cosmetic dentistry in the 21st century.

Many of us want optimum health and longevity; this is the direction progressive dentists are headed. Consider your mouth as an organ of your body. Infection, disease or malfunctioning teeth will affect your entire body. Recent studies have shown a link between gum disease and systemic disease and conditions such as cardiovascular disease and pre-term low birth weight babies. Everyone knows there is nothing worse than a toothache, (i.e. "Castaway") or headaches caused by unhappy TMJs. If you can't eat "How can you be healthy?"

Gum disease develops quietly, and it is estimated that more than half of the population over 18 have at least the early signs of periodontal disease (gum disease), only about 50 percent of the population see a dentist and less than half of that group see their dentist on a regular basis. So if you do see your dentist, or have been on a regular basis, you are not only one of the lucky ones, but part of a very select group. The good news is periodontal disease is preventable and reversible. We are all capable of keeping our teeth for a lifetime - if we choose to.

Have things really changed in dentistry? Why YES!!! There is an emphasis on prevention, comfort and high technology. There are more dental lasers, air abrasion (for less drilling), digital x-rays (for less radiation), surgical telescopes and fiber optics; porcelain inlays, crowns and veneers for metal-free restorations; and an emphasis on healthy occlusion (the way your teeth come together), which all combine to reduce pain and increase beautiful results.

We have some of Hawaii's best dental specialists and restorative (general) dentists right here on MAUI, so there is no need to go "off-island" to get involved with all the excitement of cosmetic dentistry.

Here in our office, we are patient-centered and dedicated to excellence in dentistry.
